Port Colden United Methodist Church

The Port Colden United Methodist Church is a significant structure located prominently within the Port Colden Historic District. This District is listed on both the National and New Jersey State Registers of Historic Places. Port Colden derived its historic significance from its association with the Morris Canal.

The Church, designed by Philadelphia architect Benjamin Price, was built in 1893. It is an excellent example of the Carpenter Gothic style. Unfortunately, the Church has suffered from some insensitive building restoration initiatives and deferred maintenance. Clarke Caton Hintz completed a Preservation Plan for the building that serves as a guide for future restoration efforts. The first project includes the restoration of the original entry design and stabilization and erection of a new steeple.
