About
This project is located on a 15 acre site in Newark adjoining the Malcolm X. Shabazz High School. The program called for a state-of-the-art, multi-use sports complex which is used by several Newark schools for major sporting events. Construction included an eight lane running track, football field with 4,200 seats, tennis courts, softball stadium and a fieldhouse. The fieldhouse contains concessions and locker room facilities.
In order to fit such a large program on a tight urban site it required the partial taking of two city streets and the demolition of several vacant residences.
