HUB District at Martin Luther King Drive

This urban redevelopment project is a mixed use retail/civic center to serve as a new town center for the city’s community. This project was developed in conjunction with NJ Transit who constructed a light rail transit system to service various sections of Jersey City. Under the plan, there is a Station at MLK Drive to provide a transit connection between the “HUB” district and downtown Jersey City.

The key concept was to develop a mix of market sectors commercial, civil and residential, which will tend to reinforce each other. The uses include a supermarket, shops, offices, a post office, housing and an African American museum.

The goal was to integrate this new development into the city’s historic street grid and orient the development to MLK Drive. Also included is a densely planted plaza along MLK Drive.
