Museum of Contemporary Science

The Museum of Contemporary Science (MoCS) brings exciting health-science exhibits and installations to the historic Roebling Machine Shop in Trenton, New Jersey. To prepare for MoCS, there was a multi-phase design and construction project at the Machine Shop that began with exterior restorations, and continued with the first phase of interior work, designed by Clarke Caton Hintz.

The Machine Shop is the oldest, most intact and most impressive building remaining in the Complex. All of Roebling’s production machines were designed, built, and repaired here. This building is also important as an example illustrating the transition between timber and steel frame construction techniques in industrial buildings. The Machine Shop embodies the ingenuity of the Roeblings and their skilled workers.
