The design for “Old York Village” utilizes the principles of neo-traditional development, organizing street layouts around civic elements and parks.
Integral to the character and success of Old York Village are a series of 17 neighborhood parks and greens. These were designed to provide each neighborhood with its own passive and active recreational places. Neighborhood parks exhibit a consistent aesthetic character that includes dense groves of shade trees juxtaposed with sunlit lawns. Flowering trees and shrubs reinforce important elements within the parks. Play structures are placed within the framework of trees and paths. Unified pavements, along with common site furnishings, allow each park its individual identity and scale within a design vocabulary common to Old York Village.
