This project represents the first full renovation of the 1978 Nicholas Music Center since it was first constructed. The design of the renovation is intended to be faithful to the spirit of Pietro Belluschi’s original design and is primarily focused on replacing finishes, seating, and improving accessibility within the lobby and performance hall. The project includes the replacement of over 700 seats and will improve sight-lines and spaces for accessible seating. The stage is also to be expanded to provide greater flexibility for programming and to allow for better seating for ensembles. A new sound control booth will also be constructed to help centralize controls and improve access between the stage and the booth. The resulting renovation will restore the luster of Rutgers’ largest performing arts facility while maintaining its excellent acoustics.
