Garden State Equality is New Jersey’s leading advocacy organization for the LGBTQ+ community. As they continue to grow and champion equality, they are excited to create a new headquarters that reflects their mission, serves the community, and acts as an anchor for Equality in New Jersey. This project includes a phased renovation of a 100 year old former bank in downtown Asbury Park.
This project identifies long-term infrastructure and physical improvements to allow the building to function as a better home for Garden State Equality, includes building structure and building systems analysis and recommended upgrades for implementation in future phases of work. It also includes spatial reconfigurations, accessibility upgrades, and life safety upgrades.
New Programmatic components include event space on the roof, a mezzanine level for additional work and gathering space in the main space and community space for teens on the lower level, A vision phased plan document shows how subsequent phases of work can be completed and include the anticipated cost of each phase. This first phase focuses on providing private offices, meeting spaces, and reception areas primarily at the first floor level. It will also include renovations for ADA-compliant toilet facilities and renovations to the HVAC, lighting, and security systems.
